Since there are four different ways to say “you” in Spanish, there are also four different types of commands, plus one extra form for the affirmative tú (informal) command. Since a command is addressed directly to someone, the understood recipient of the command is “you.” Or, if you are included in the recipient group, it can be “us.” The “you” is almost never stated when an English command is given-as in “take out the trash”-but it is common in Spanish to use the subject pronoun for “you” ( tú, usted, ustedes, vosotros/as) after the command form of the verb. If you want to tell someone to do something, you must give a command.
